How GPA Calculator works
How does the GPA calculator work?
Each course gets a grade point from a standard 4.0 scale, where A+ and A both equal 4.0, down through A- at 3.7, B+ at 3.3, and so on to F at 0.0. The tool multiplies each course's grade points by its credit hours, adds those up across every row, then divides by the total credits entered. That weighted-average result is your GPA, shown to two decimal places.
When would I use this instead of my school's portal?
It's handy for planning ahead of a registrar posting final grades, like estimating your semester GPA before finals to see how much a given course needs to pull your average up or down. It also works well for quick what-if scenarios, such as testing how retaking a class or adding a heavier course load changes your cumulative number.
Will this match my school's official GPA exactly?
Only if your school also uses the common 4.0 scale with A+ capped at 4.0 â some institutions instead give A+ a 4.3, and others use entirely different scales or weighted honors-course bonuses. The calculator has no way to know which convention your registrar applies, so treat the result as a close estimate and confirm against your school's published grading scale for anything official.
